I still had the urge to smoke sometimes for at least a year, usually when hanging out with friends who smoked.

It has been almost 9 years since I quit smoking. The urge to smoke hits at the weirdest times. It is not the patch you need now. The nicotine was out of your system until you put the patch  back on. It is a psychological urge. Take that patch off and let the nicotine get back out of your system!
I am proud of you for not giving in to the urge to light up. It is hard.

I agree that it's not a physical need at this time for the nicotine - I hate smoke, it makes me unable to breathe when I am around it, I quit over 20 years ago, and yet once in a while when I am stressed, the desire pops up. It's very strange how that happens! You couldn't pay me to get near a lit cigarette by choice. So just be tough, and the urge will pass. I wonder if gently holding a pillow against your rib will help with coughing? You know, so it won't move so much. Your son is the greatest!

It's strange how that urge can come on, after not having it for such a long time.  I found that when I was stressed, it hit.  So, it's totally understandable.  I'm glad you were able to hang in here.  Pam, I think of you often and pray that you stay in that positive mode.  You are truly an inspiration to everyone that reads your journal.  I'm wishing you all good things, my friend.   Tina

HI
I just caught up on your journal from the last few days.
I noticed on your team of people helping to get well--you didn't have an accupuncturist--I realize you prolly get a zillion suggestions a day on things you should do or try or whatever--but just from experience my accupuncturist is probably the most valued member of my medical team because he can relieve pain, prescribe herbs and keep me from puking when noe one else can.
Keep up the good fight--I'm rooting for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
