Day 175 12:08 pm california time

i just had a comment left in my guestbook by Bobby, wanting to know if i still smoke cigarettes .. and the answer is a resounding NO .. cancer seemed to be the motivation i needed to quit and i haven't even come close to having an urge to smoke again in 174 days

here are my "stats" by quitnet . com, on online service that has been extremely useful to me especially in the early days of becoming smoke free

My Quit My Stats:
Your Quit Date is:  6/24/2005 6:30:00 PM
Time Smoke-Free: 173 days, 20 hours, 32 minutes and 24 seconds
Cigarettes NOT smoked: 3477
Lifetime Saved 26 days, 13 hours
Money Saved: $609.00

well, this appears to be the last shot of our accidental garden i'm going to be able to get for this year !!  its gotten colder here the past couple of weeks and i haven't seen any new growth so i figured it was time to "harvest" the first crop of corn lol

does this qualify as "accidental corn?" hehe

obviously i'm a city girl, born and bred, so i'm really not too sure what to do with the corn stalks that remain after i harvested the corn .. am i supposed to leave the stalks?  am i supposed to rip the corn out of the ground?  is there anybody that reads my journal that knows a thing or two about corn crops? HELP !!  i don't know what to do now !!!

i tossed the corn "cobs" into the squirrel food basket .. i'll check back in a couple of days to see if they've been hauled off for safe keeping during the winter :)

i have to confess that i've had a blast with the garden this year .. from its earliest beginnings to the actual harvest of almost a dozen ears of really strange looking corn .. i just hope mother nature is good to us next year and blesses us again with another accidental garden :)

::shuffling off singing "you've picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille ... four hundred children and a crop in the field .... "::

I just love your accidental garden....Don't know a thing about corn cobs...but I'm sure someone will put you right....I hope the squirrels enjoy them....and I hope Mother Nature Blesses you with an accidental garden next year.....Take Care....Ally

I used to have a huge garden. We left the stalks in the field or tossed them into a "compost pile" where they break down. The squirrels should love that corn! See you had a green thumb and never knew it!

If you don't compost, you rip it out of the ground and toss everything except the corn. If you want to go rustic, use the empty cobs in the outhouse, lol.

Pam...I've enjoyed the story of your accidental garden from the very beginnings when you had such small spouts coming out of the ground.  Now you've harvested corn...albiet strange looking....but it's CORN nonetheless.  How cool is that??  I'm sure the squirrels will enjoy it so much!  I am glad you are doing well....and let's hope you get another accidental garden in the Spring!
Enjoy your day!  Pamela

You did well with your garden!  I've watched it grow with you from the beginning.  Thanks for sharing!  Why didn't you boil at least one ear of corn for yourself to see how sweet the kernals were?

Pam I enjoyed seeing the end results of your corn garden, know the squirrel's will enjoy  them, but like the other reader said "wish you would have kept one to eat" so you could see if you had some yummy tasting corn ears.  Love that no matter what you have on your plate dear, that you always find time to enjoy life.  Good for you, dear............Hugs, AJ

I, too, have enjoyed your garden this year.  Here's to many more!  The corn stalks are not good for much.  You can pull them up and toss them.

I'm sad about the end of accidental garden #1.  I am sure you will have another next year.
I have no idea what to do with corn stalks.  I would think you would cut them back, but I am a city girl too, what do I know?
congrats on the non-smoking.

I had the most fun gardening with you this year Pam!!!!!

Just ask Judy how much I like corn......corn rocks and yours looks just fine to me and the critters.

Next year may the corn be bigger and the pumpkins have more orange.

WOW! way to go, Pam... 3477 cigarettes.. in only 173 days. Those are amazing numbers. I am wanting, to quit more and more. I am tired of being sick. I am sick of being tired. My goal is to be smoke free by the time we come to visit.

You know, I always thought Lucille had 4 hungry children! Well, if I had 400 children, crop be damned, I'd need a nap!

Mom once thought that Sugar Ray's "I Just Wanna Fly" was "I Just Wanna Cry" and she couldn't understand why in the hell he souded so happy about it!

i love you,

Nancy

Angel Girl...

Just sent that website to my brother. Want to get him to quit! Love the corn & idea of giving it to the squirrels. Don't ask me what to do. I was only on my aunts farm for like 2 days in my life! Ha! I actually had a guy tell me that in the real hot summers the corn pops in the field like popcorn. I think he was just trying to see how blonde I really was. Why do guys do that? Sure make the girl feel like a fool, that is a great way to get her to like you....NOT!

I loved your accidental garden. I think I might do one next year! :-) Thanks for sharing with us all this time. The pictures look great...we have snow now. It is actually snowing very lightly right now & it glistens through the street light.  Ya! Friday! Grades are suppose to be in but we had a major server problem so I'll be still grading this weekend a bit. That is ok. Not as stressed. Have a great weekend.

Okay, so it's not the prettiest corn in the world.. lol.. but, hey!  It looks great for accidentally being thrown where it was!  I bet the squirrels will have a field day with it!  :)
